Asia Pulp & Paper Wins Most Environmentally Friendly Products in Bangkok

Zero Deforestation commitment is considered to provide positive environmental and social impacts for the communities around the forest

Jakarta, June 8, 2016 - Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas today has been awarded as one of the most environmentally friendly company from Eco-Products International Fair 2016 (EPIF) in Bangkok, Thailand. APP was the only company from Indonesia that has been given this award.

APP Forest Conservation Policy (FCP) are commited since 2013 to bring positive impacts in the business with protecting and conserving natural forests areas where APP and wood pulp suppliers operate. Based on this commitment, since 2013 the pulp mills and paper APP only accepts timber from sustainable managed plantation forests (HTI) according to the principles of Sustainable Forest Management.

Eco-Products International Fair (EPIF) is an annual international exhibition held by Japanese non-profit organizations, the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) since 2004, together with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and the Thailand Productivity Institute (FTPI). For the second time this exhibition be held in Thailand after 2005. EPIF 2016 held at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center from June 8 until June 11, 2016 with the theme “24 Hour Eco Life” and involving more than 170 exhibitors, 200 biths and expected more than 70,000 visitors.

This award presented by Deputy Prime Minister, His Excellency Air Chief Marshal, Prajin Junthong to the representative of APP, Mitsuko Iinuma from Japan Chairman Office. Another winner of this award is the JFE Group, Kao Corporation (Japan), Lion Corporation (Thailand), Taiheiyo Cement Corporation (Japan), Thai Wacoal Public Company Limited (Thailand), Thanakorn Vegetable Oil Products (Thailand), The Siam cement Public Company Limited (Thailand), and Toto Ltd. (Japan).

Global Communication Director Asia Pulp & Paper, Ui Tan Sian welcomed this award, as a pride  of business entity for Indonesia in the international level."APP is very proud to represent Indonesia in this international event, and this award into a global industry recognition that Indonesia is in the frontline in producing environmentally friendly products, "said Ui Tan Sian. "Forest Conservation Policy is APP's commitment to produce only in the corridors of industrial plantation and be our guide in working with various stakeholders to continue efforts to improve forest conservation and sustainable peatland restoration.".

Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP) is the largest paper producer in Indonesia, and the third largest in the world. APP is the pioneer in the production of sustainable pulp and paper production process through Forest Conservation Policy (FCP) commitment, which is implemented since 2013 as a part of the Sustainability Roadmap: Vision 2020. Through the FCP, APP is committed to tackle deforestation throughout the supply chain, protecting forest areas, responsible peatland management and involvement of local people in improving the welfare and protect the forest.
