South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru awarded The Forest and land Fire Mitigation Award 2019 award to three APP Sinar Mas industrial timber estate companies in Palembang, Sunday (1/12).
For the past five months, these three APP Sinar Mas industrial timber estate companies — PT Bumi Mekar Hijau, PT Bumi Andalas Permai, and PT Rimba Hutani Mas — along with other companies have engaged in coordination in dealing with forest and ground fires in South Sumatra. In this case, APP Sinar Mas deployed six helicopter units and dozens of heavy machineries to assist the fire-fighting efforts.
Herman expressed his appreciation to all parties which had participated in handling the forest and ground fires in South Sumatra so that the coordination post of the fire-fighting taskforce could be closed down. The fire mitigation was deemed as satisfactory.
“I thank all parties involved in this forest and ground fire mitigation in South Sumatra, including all corporations that have assisted the firefighting team, from providing support in the form of personnel to providing equipment for deployment,” said Herman.
The Indonesian Association of Forest Entrepreneurs (APHI) through its South Sumatra Regional Commissioner, Iwan Setiawan, said that although only three APP Sinar Mas partners received the awards, that did not mean that the other companies did not participate. All of them participated and worked hard in dealing with forest and ground fire mitigation in South Sumatra.
“On behalf of APHI, we express our gratitude for the support of all parties which have worked hard in controlling the forest and ground fire in South Sumatra until they were extinguished,” he said.
