STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION EXTENSION NOTICE: PT BUANA MEGATAMA JAYA (19-26 APRIL 2018)

PT Buana Megatama Jaya (PT BMJ), a pulpwood plantation concession holder in West Kalimantan, has started Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Supplier Evaluation and Risk Assessment (SERA) process since June 2014, and currently has completed the risk assessment process under SERA. Prior to the submission to the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) for final approval and inclusion into APP’s Approved Long-Term Suppliers List, APP is conducting a Stakeholder Consultation process to address any concerns that stakeholders might have on the inclusion of PT BMJ into APP’s suppliers list.

Original 14-days stakeholder consultation period has been held on 28 March 2018 – 11 April 2018.

Based on several stakeholders’ feedback during that period requesting further information in order to make a more informed feedback, APP has decided to share the Executive Summary of PT BMJ Risk Assessment Result (ENGLISHBAHASA), and re-open the Stakeholder consultation for one week.

The additional stakeholder consultation will be open on 19 April 2018 – 26 April 2018.

Stakeholders who would like to raise any concern on PT BMJ are invited to send their concern to sustainability@app.co.id, with subject: “Stakeholder Consultation – Feedback on PT BMJ”.

Additional Notes:
1. PT BMJ is not involved in any natural forest conversion activity since February 2013, as required under SERA.
2. PT BMJ has not started any operational activity.
3. HCV and HCS assessment have been conducted for PT BMJ, within which public consultation has been conducted six (6) times in the period of June-August 2016. Additionally, there is a multi-stakeholder consultation post- HCV assessment for PT BMJ in January 2017.
4. Prior to supplying woods to APP mill, PT BMJ has to complete necessary legality and sustainable forest management certification by third party, at the very minimum the mandatory certification (SVLK and PHPL), to ensure compliance to APP’s Forest Conservation Policy.
5. As a next step, once PT BMJ is accepted into APP’s supply chain, there will be a process to develop its Integrated Sustainable Forest Management Plan (ISFMP), which will also include forming a regional ISFMP taskforce, where we will invite stakeholders to be involved in the process.
