The 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) was held from 4 December to 14 December 2018 in Katowice. The main objective of COP24 is to adopt a decision ensuring full implementation of the Paris Agreement, by setting out commitments for each participating country to follow in terms of intensifying its climate protection efforts.
As a forestry business, we understand that our efforts matter in achieving a sustainable future. In 2012, APP Sinar Mas launched its Sustainability Vision Roadmap 2020 to prioritize sustainability as the core of our business, setting out goals on Conservation, Biodiversity, Emissions and more. The following year, we established our Forest Conservation Policy, laying out specific processes to end deforestation on our supplier concessions.
APP Sinar Mas recognises that we cannot prevent climate change alone. If we want significant and sustainable impact, with consistent and quantifiable results, we have to work with other stakeholders, including governments, civil societies, multilateral organisations, local communities and other business partners.
Elim Sritaba, APP Sinar Mas’s Director of Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement, and Librian Angraeni, APP Sinar Mas’s Deputy Director of Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement, joined various panel sessions to share more on APP’s Vision 2020, Forest Conservation Policy, Integrated Fire Management programme, Integrated Forestry & Farming System and APP Sinar Mas’s adoption of technology as we work hand-in-hand to conserve our forests and improve the livelihoods of communities.
Dr. Sri Mariati of Belantara Foundation was also among the representatives at the event, and spoke on partnerships for a sustainable future.
As global leaders in the public, private and civil sectors come together at COP24 to address the issue of climate change, APP Sinar Mas remains optimistic that, together, we can create a more sustainable future.
