The Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Resort Police held a Call for Readiness Ceremony to Anticipate Forest and Land Fires in the Balian Village, Mesuji Raya District, OKI Regency, South Sumatra on Wednesday (9/6).
This ceremony was led by the South Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Eko Indra Heri and attended by several representatives from the local government, Indonesian army and related agencies, as well as APP Sinar Mas and several companies from plantation and industrial plantation forest (HTI) sector located in OKI area
The OKI’s Deputy Regent HM Djafar Shodiq appreciated all sector who were present at the event. "We hope that in the future there will be no forest and land fires in the OKI area," he said.
The South Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Eko Indra Heri also appreciated all parties involved in the preparation for Anticipating Forest and Land Fires in the OIC region during his speech.
"Currently about 120 hotspots have been identified in the OKI area, the South Sumatra Regional Police and the Sriwijaya Military Command II will deploy personnel, together with the companies and Manggala Agni to monitor and prevent forest and land fires in 2021," said Eko.
During the event, the South Sumatra Police Chief was also awarded by the Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian Forest Concessionaires (APHI) award for his leadership in the 2020 forest fire prevention and control efforts in South Sumatra. The award was given by the Deputy Commissioner of APHI in South Sumatra Efendy South Sumatra. The award was also given to the OKI Police Chief, AKBP Alamsyah Pelupessy for his support in the innovation of Drone Squad development.
The event was also attended by the Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas Rapid Reaction Team (Tim Reaksi Cepat / TRC) in the OKI area and the Heli Attack Team (Helitack) along with 1 set of Mark-3 Kit fire pumps which are usually carried during air patrol by helicopter.
APP Sinar Mas’ Fire Operation Management Head in OKI, Mares Prabadi, explained that air patrol is one of the methods of early detection and rapid reaction in the integrated fire management. During the air patrol, the team will be ready to descend from the helicopter to extinguish the fire when the fire is detected.
