Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita during the launching of the Green Industry award last April 2022 said that the 12th green industry award is the government's effort to help industrial companies to apply the principles of sustainability. Thus, all forms of industrial activities can pay attention to the impact on the environment.
"We are doing this program is none other than our efforts to facilitate and assist the industry. They (industries) are also an important and main part of our efforts to preserve the environment," he said.
The implementation of Green Industry is an effort to prevent emissions and waste. This is closely related to the assessment results of the Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER).
After receiving the award, President Commissioner of PT OKI Pulp & Paper who is also the Director of APP Sinar Mas, Suhendra Wiriadinata, said that the award given by the Ministry of Industry is an achievement achieved by APP Sinar Mas in carrying out sustainable business practices, in line with the Sustainability Roadmap Vision (SRV) 2030, where APP Sinar Mas and its supply partners are committed to reducing the carbon footprint in its production process by 30%, protecting & conserving more than half a million hectares of natural forest, and providing a positive impact on stakeholders throughout APP Sinar Mas' business and supply chain, including the surrounding community.
"We welcome the award given to us by the Ministry of Industry. We believe that by continuing to promote and implement the importance of sustainable industrial practices, in addition to preserving the environment, it will also be able to increase the competitiveness of the Indonesian industry in the global market," Suhendra explained.
In general, the Green Industry assessment criteria are based on three main things, namely the production process which includes production efficiency, the use of input materials, energy, water, process technology, human resources and the work environment in the production process room. Then, waste management performance includes reducing CO2 emissions (for large industries), meeting environmental quality standards (medium industries), and company management.
