APP Sinar Mas Supports Asian Games 2018

Jakarta, December 7, 2017 - APP has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support the upcoming 2017 Asian Games. Apart from sponsorship support, APP also built a bowling center as a sports venue in Palembang with a budget of more than Rp 26 billion (US$1.82 million). The bowling center is expected to be completed at the end of this year and be handed over in early 2018.

APP will also provide $4 million in cash assistance as well as product support, with Sinar Dunia (SiDU) photocopy paper and Paseo brand tissue as the event’s official paper and official tissue, respectively. The products will be distributed in line with the organizing committee’s needs during the two-week event. Apart from that, Sinar Mas through its business unit Sinar Mas Land will also renovate 16 sports buildings in Jakarta and its surrounding areas to be used by athletes in training sessions ahead of the world’s second-largest sports event after the Olympics. The work has been ongoing in the past year with a total budget of around Rp 70 billion.

One day after the signing of documents marking the private sector’s support for the 2018 Asian Games, Vice President Jusuf Kalla inspected the construction site of sports facilities in Palembang. Kalla visited the bowling center that APP is constructing and which will be used for the quadrennial sports event. On the occasion, Kalla said that he appreciated the private sector’s support for Indonesia’s successful turn as host of the 2018 Asian Games. Sinar Mas managing director Saleh Husin, who accompanied Kalla during the visit, said that Sinar Mas, through its business pillar Asia Pulp & Paper, would provide long-term investment help in the hope that Indonesia will have updated sports facilities of international standards. The facilities will benefit not only athletes but also the general public. “Hopefully, our athletes can improve their achievements and our people will have a more comprehensive alternative for sports and recreation activities,” Saleh Husin added.
