Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas participated at the HANNOVER MESSE, the world’s leading industry trade fair, in Hannover, Germany, on 17-21 April 2023. The event provided a platform for leading industry representatives to discuss the best way to approach the challenges of achieving Industry 4.0 through various exhibitions. As the event’s first ASEAN Official Partner Country, Indonesia presented over 150 exhibiting organizations, including APP Sinar Mas, to showcase the latest industrial technologies and investment opportunities in the Indonesian industrial sector.
For over 25 years, APP Sinar Mas has aligned with Indonesia’s efforts to digitalize industries by prioritizing the process of technological and digital transformation in all aspects of its operations. The ongoing digitization process has helped APP Sinar Mas meet the increasingly complex market demands, improve the company’s competitiveness in the global market, and position itself as a world-class paper producer. Alfian Lim, Head of Automation at APP Sinar Mas, shared that the digitalization implementation in APP Sinar Mas’ business processes began in the late 1990s, which has helped to speed up production time, increase efficiency in various operational areas, and improve product quality by using real-time data analysis.
APP Sinar Mas’ digital transformation has successfully optimized the workings of every aspect of the company to remain ready in the face of market changes. Part of this success came from APP Sinar Mas’ collaboration with Tietoevry, a leading European software company, through the TIPS Industry Solution and Services, an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) integrated with SAP. The TIPS system digitized and automated APP Sinar Mas’ business processes in the production area while improving the agility of internal capabilities. Tietoevry’s solution provides real-time and transparent data for all factory operations, as well as improves efficiency, product quality, and sustainability.
During the opening of HANNOVER MESSE 2023, Indonesia's President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the theme was very relevant for the country, currently undergoing economic transformation through innovation and technology. "At the moment Indonesia is implementing two big strategies, namely industry downstreaming and a green economy," Jokowi said. In terms of green economy, Indonesia is strongly committed to maintaining environmental sustainability. It is targeted that by 2023, as part of the Making Indonesia 4.0 strategic initiative, 1,000 factories will have been transformed into smart factories, and 100,000 technologically-skilled workers will have been trained.
