Global certifications protect consumers and the environment

To reassure the customers of APP that its products are produced sustainably, APP embraces ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008, considered the ultimate global environmental and quality standard by environmentalists and governments alike.

In fact, all APP mills are certified under ISO14001:2004, standard that defines requirements for environmental management systems to help prevent pollution and help companies improve their environmental performance. All APP mills are also certified under ISO 9001:2008, a global standard for product quality.

However, ISO14001 and ISO 9001 are only the foundation. To enhance its certification credentials in nations to which it exports, APP submits its products to a broad range of international compliance and certification reviews, as well as stringent independent audits.

As a result, APP products meet a variety of other international certification guidelines, including Indonesian, European and Japanese Ecolabelling schemes. A sampling of APP product certifications includes:

  • The Japanese Green Purchasing Law standard.
  • The HALAL religious standard.
  • The Indonesian Ecolabel Standard.
  • The European Commission Ecolabel standard.
  • The Japanese Ecomark Standard.
  • The Taiwan Green Mark Ecolabel Standard.
  • The US Green Seal Ecolabel Standard

Whenever customers request products that meet specific certification standards, APP’s mills are equipped to handle that request quickly.

The company has been a leader in embracing international standards for food safety, product quality and product safety. In fact, APP’s PT Indah Kiat Tangerang mill was awarded the first ISO 14001 certificate in Indonesia, in 1996.

In addition, APP’s four major pulpwood suppliers, PT Arara Abadi, PT Wirakarya Sakti, PT Satria Perkasa Agung and PT Finnantara Intiga, all have environmental management systems that have been certified against the ISO 14001:2004 standard.

In 2008 and 2009, three smaller suppliers also attained ISO 14001:2004 certification: PT Sekato Pratama Makmur, PT Bukit Batu Hutani Alam, and PT Perawang Sukses Perkasa Industri. APP continues to enforce similar certifications for its other suppliers.
