Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) participates in Indonesian Pavilion conferences for COP21

Asia Pulp & Paper will participate of various events at the Indonesian Pavilion in the Paris Le Bourget Exhibition Centre, Paris. This theme of the Indonesia Pavilion is Solutions to Climate Change, which explores Indonesia’s journey to creating a better environment for future generations, from COP 13 in Bali until COP 21 in Paris.

The Indonesia Pavilion is located at the Paris Le Bourget Exhibition Center Paris – France Hall 2B, Country Pavilion Area COP21 UN Compound. A map of this location is available here

Details of APP participation in the Indonesia Pavilion are below – all events will be located within the Indonesia Pavilion.  

FOREST LANDSCAPE: PRODUCTION AND PROTECTION 

Date: Tuesday, 1st December

Time: 4:30pm to 6pm 

This session will explore best practice approaches to forest protection and restoration, moderated by Dr. Irsyal Yasman, Vice Chairman, Indonesian Association of Forest Concessionaires (APHI).

The event will feature the following speakers and presentations:

  • Prof. Dr. Yohanes Purwanto, UNESCO, MAB-Indonesia, presents a case study of landscape management “UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserve Approach: Study Case Giam Siak Kecil – Biosphere Reserve”
  • Aida Greenbury,  Managing Director Sustainability and Stakeholder Engagement APP, presents about production and production in the forest landscape.
  • Faizal Parish, Director Global Environment Centre, overview APP's landscape approach and peatland management.

 

INTEGRATING SOCIAL MANAGEMENT THROUGH A LANDSCAPE APPROACH

Date: Wednesday, 2nd December

Time: 2pm to 3pm

This panel event, moderated by Dr. Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, Advisor for Climate Change to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Resources, will focus on the impact of land conflict on local communities and ways to address this complex issue. 

The event will feature the following presentations:

  • “Respecting local wisdom to resolve social conflict as part as forest fire prevention,” Elim Sritaba, Director of Sinar Mas Forestry
  • “Landscape approach as a potential solutions to social conflict,” Dr. Iman Santoso, Policy Advisor, Conservation International
  • “Mechanism design in conflict resolution: lessons learnt, conflict resolution between concessionaire and local community,” Purwadi Suprihanto, Executive Director at Indonesian Association of Forest Concessionaire (APHI)

 

NATURAL FOREST: PRODUCTION AND CONSERVATION

Date: Thursday, 3rd December

Time: 5pm to 6pm  

This event features a series of presentations on sustainable natural forest management and protection practices, moderated by Jatna Supriatna, PhD., University of Indonesia.

  • “Implementing RILC+ in natural forest management,” Ir. Wahyudi Wardojo, Senior Advisor, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) 
  • “Improving productivity in natural forest management by implementing intensive silviculture system,” Dr. Irsyal Yasman, Vice Chairman, APHI 
  • “High conservation value management for sumatran elephants,” Dr. Dolly Priatna, Head of Conservation, APP
  • “Contribution of certified sustainable forest management to a healthy landscape,” Fitrian Ardiansyah, Indonesia Country Director, IDH - The Sustainable Trade Initiative
