Daily Fire Update

APP takes forest fire very seriously and we have operated a zero burning policy in our supply chain since 1996. This is further strengthened by the implementation of our zero deforestation or Forest Conservation Policy in 2013, which required all suppliers to implement a moratorium on natural forest clearance and development on peatland by February 1st 2013.

Fires cost APP and its suppliers millions of dollars every year and the pulpwood plantation model is harmed by fire. APP therefore has no commercial interest in fires. Our fire fighting teams are working around the clock and we are bringing in additional resources from across our supply chain to manage forest fires on our suppliers’ land.

Weekly hotspot and fire monitoring summary available here.

Below is the fire update monitoring on 24 January 2017 which captures the fire situation in daily period in provinces where APP’s pulpwood suppliers operate in: Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, East Kalimantan and West Kalimantan.

* APP monitors hotspots and fire on concessions belonging to them and their suppliers. Monitoring is conducted on a daily basis through Aqua, Terra and Modis sensors, followed by ground and / or aerial verification. The firefighting teams are then despatched to suppress fires once it is identified. Fire monitoring maps on APP's website are updated as of 5pm the day before.
